Brothers Ross and Rocky Lynch are not newbies when it comes to the entertainment industry. Ross starred on Disney Channel’s hit show Austin and Ally from 2011 until 2015, as well as Teen Beach Movie 1 and 2. They began releasing music as The Driver Era in 2018 after their previous band, R5, disbanded. The Driver Era is always evolving and their sound is ever-changing. With the release of their new single, Get Off My Phone, that statement only becomes more evident. The eclectic pop duo released their new song on February 22nd, 2024.

Get Off My Phone is a high energy song about trying to get over a hard breakup. It is a pop-rock song with heavy guitars and catchy background vocals. The song opens immediately with a soft guitar and the lines “Finally, I washed your perfume off of my sheets, Threw out all your records reminding me”. He then goes on to sing “Moved out of the Hollywood Hills, Where we fell in love, damn I feel it still”.
The dynamic chorus starts off with “Get off my phone, leave me alone, don't wanna think of all the ways that we went wrong”. Ross’s vocals are strong and convey the deep hurt that one would feel while trying to not think of their former love. The chorus ends with, “I can’t resist, what hell is this, on it goes on, I need to forget and get you off my phone. Need to get off my phone, get off my phone”. Before the next verse starts, the music takes a surprisingly upbeat and cheerful tone. Included in the instrumental break, is a vibey yet grungey guitar solo.
The second verse melodically follows the structure of the first two lines of verse one. It opens with “Face down I hit the concrete and started to bleed, I wish I could call you and now we don’t speak, I’m fine in this dark motel, feeling what we felt, I just hope you’re well.”. Although the chorus is the same as the first, it feels stronger and hits harder the second time.

Immediately after the chorus, the bridge comes in with “Doom scroll, I hit a pothole, it keeps my heart broke”. When the chorus comes in a third time, there’s a certain desperation in Ross’s voice that we haven’t heard to this extent until this place in the song. His vocals while he sings this chorus have an almost screaming aspect while he sounds distressed, begging “you” (the person he’s singing about) to get off his phone for the very last time. The song ends the same way it started, “Finally I washed your perfume off of my sheets, threw out all your records that reminded me, reminded me”, as a piano softly plays the last notes.
Get Off My Phone is an incredible and dynamic song that resulted from a devastating heartbreak. The Driver Era is constantly raising the bar with the music they put out and aren’t going to be stopping anytime soon. If you’d like to see them on tour this year, keep an eye out because they’re dropping their tour dates soon.
